Pony Trekking is a combination of riding and seeing the countryside on horseback. The Grange is placed in a valley with direct access to 3 mountain ridges, with lots of different riding routes for all abilities, pockets and timescales! From quiet lane rides, to undulating pathways and exhilarating moorland expanses, all have breath-taking views.
Sturdy, responsive, Welsh ponies and cobs are used ranging from 12 to 16hh, which are hardy and surefooted and suitable for either children or adults, experienced or beginners. Like their riders, horses differ in temperament and habits, which make up part of the fun in getting to know the ponies as well as your fellow riders.

WEIGHT LIMIT
We have one of the most inclusive riding weight limits in the country at 14.5 stone/92kg. It is possible for us to accommodate the odd person who is on or even above this limit providing they are also tall and have a bit of previous riding experience.
FRESH AIR & GOOD COMPANY
From the 2nd of April 2025...

On different rides it is possible to see lots of the Black Mountains and magnificent views of the Brecon Beacons, Holy Mountain and the Golden Valley. From one spot you can see as far as the Bristol Channel, which is about 60 miles away, from another viewpoint you can see no less than seven different counties.
WHAT ARE THE RIDES LIKE?
Each rider is individually allocated to their mount, and given instruction and demonstrations on handling, grooming, and tacking up, all with our help and knowledge gained in over 67 years.

HOUR treks are designed for 4 to 7 year olds or those with limited hip and lower body mobility, to gain confidence. This ride can also be led by hand if deemed necessary.
HALF DAY treks for the first-time riders or the highly experienced. You can enjoy mixed level tracks over the mountains, through streams, or along quiet country lanes. Half days are about three hours long overall with about two/two and a half hours of riding.
FULL DAY ride is for all who feel happy in the saddle, it takes you higher up the mountains often giving better panoramic views and the terrain a little more demanding. The ride often goes up into the mountains stopping at a scenic spot for your packed lunch, weather dependent (carried on the horses in a pannier-bag) and returns to the stables to un-tack.

Check-out our HORSERIDING SHORT BREAKS with B&B, camping or glamping. Work socials, stag or hen days and team building days are also very popular.

Had a wonderful day's trekking. The scenery was stunning, the horses a pleasure to ride and Sarah was an excellent leader. There were many of different abilities and experience on the same trek but Sarah made sure that those of us who wanted to could hang back at various points and have a good canter! Can't recommend this centre highly enough. Professional yet with the personal touch. And they obviously love their horses. Thank you Sarah and Jessica for a fabulous day.
Such an amazing day! Me, my partner and daughter did the half day. I thought it was just gonna be field riding but they took us up the mountains and across streams, was so good and beautiful. Never rode before and was little nervous but soon as we got on the mountain it was so much fun. This will be a regular visit from us.

I bought my Mum a voucher through buyagift.com. I was able to choose from lots of trekking centres all across the country but The Grange stood out to me as the best value for money. There was great communication throughout from Jessica and then we had our trek lead by Ruth who was amazing. We were both a little nervous but Jessica and Ruth did a great job at helping us gain confidence. The horses are so well looked after and very well trained. We were so impressed and are already planning our return trip. Thank you Jessica and Ruth!
